What to look for when buying  Passover Matzah

When buying matzah for Passover, it’s important to check that it is clearly labelled Kosher for Passover (KfP), as regular matzah products sold year-round may not meet Passover requirements. Many people prefer shmurah matzah, which is specially supervised from harvest to baking, while others opt for standard machine-made matzah for convenience and cost. You’ll also find variations such as whole wheat, egg matzah, and gluten-free options—but these are not always suitable for everyone during Passover. Texture, freshness, and packaging integrity are also important, as matzah should be crisp, dry, and free from any signs of moisture

What to avoid when buying Pesach Matzah

  • ❌ Matzah without clear Passover certification
  • Egg matzah (generally not permitted for Ashkenazim, except certain cases)
  • ❌ Packs that feel soft or stale (could indicate moisture exposure)
  • Flavoured or enriched varieties unless specifically certified KfP
  • ❌ Damaged boxes with excessive breakage
