If you've ever wondered whether astrology has a place in Jewish thought, you're not alone — and the best kosher astrology books on Amazon answer that question with real Torah scholarship rather than guesswork. I've spent time going through the titles that treat this subject seriously, from rabbis and Torah-observant authors who ground the stars in Kabbalah, Talmud, and Midrash rather than pop-culture horoscopes. Whether you're drawn to the Zodiac of the Twelve Tribes, the mystical tradition behind Kabbalistic astrology, or a beginner-friendly introduction to how Jewish mysticism views the cosmos, this list brings together well-reviewed, thoughtfully written books for anyone exploring Jewish astrology from a place of genuine curiosity and respect. As always, I'm not a Rabbi or a Kashrut Authority — for questions about the halachic view of astrology, please speak with your own local Rabbi.
✨ Foundational Jewish Astrology Guides
Start here for a Torah-rooted introduction to the subject.
These three set the foundation for anyone new to the subject. Rabbi-authored and heavily sourced from Torah, Talmud, and Midrash, they're written for readers who want to understand where Jewish astrology actually comes from rather than a modern reinterpretation of it. Pinkesz's book is the most visually rich of the group with 75 pages of full-color illustration, while Kronenberg and the AstroLoom guide lean more into direct textual study. All three make thoughtful gifts for someone exploring their Jewish heritage or deepening their Torah study — no kosher food certification applies here since these are books, not food products.
🔯 Kabbalistic Astrology & Mysticism
For readers ready to go deeper into the Kabbalah tradition.
This group moves from the historical (Dobin's classic, first published decades ago and still considered a cornerstone text) into more contemporary syntheses like Halevi's Tree of Life framework and Weems's newer take blending Kabbalah, astrology, and tarot. If you're already comfortable with the basics of Kabbalah, these are strong next steps — each treats the material with the seriousness it deserves rather than flattening it into generic New Age astrology.
🌙 Beginner-Friendly Kabbalah & Astrology
Approachable entry points for readers just starting out.
Mari Silva's books are consistently among the most approachable in this space, which is why I've included two of her titles here — they're written specifically for readers with no prior background in Kabbalah or Jewish mysticism. If the more academic, Torah-source-heavy books above feel intimidating, start here instead and work your way up.
📖 What to Look For
Choosing a Jewish astrology book that's actually rooted in Torah sources.
Not every book with "Kabbalah" or "astrology" in the title treats the subject with the same rigor. Look for authors who are ordained rabbis or Torah scholars, books that cite primary sources like the Talmud, Zohar, and Midrash rather than paraphrasing secondhand, and publishers with a track record in Judaica (Mosaica Press, Jason Aronson, and similar houses are good signs). Since these are books rather than food or kitchen products, there's no kosher certification to check — the "kosher" in "kosher astrology" refers to the content being grounded in an authentically Torah-observant framework, not a hechsher. As always, treat any book on this topic as educational reading rather than religious guidance, and bring specific questions to your own local Rabbi.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Does Judaism believe in astrology?
Views vary among rabbinic authorities, but astrology is discussed in the Talmud, Midrash, and later Kabbalistic sources. Several of the books on this list, including Pinkesz's "Kosher Astrology," cite dozens of Torah figures who engaged with the topic seriously. For a definitive halachic position, speak with your own local Rabbi.
What is "kosher astrology"?
"Kosher astrology" refers to an approach to astrology that's grounded in Torah, Talmud, and Kabbalistic sources rather than secular horoscope traditions. It's a term popularized by author Yitzchok A. Pinkesz's book of the same name.
What's the difference between Kabbalistic astrology and regular astrology?
Kabbalistic astrology maps the zodiac and planets onto Jewish mystical structures like the Tree of Life and the twelve tribes of Israel, drawing on the Talmud, Zohar, and Midrash rather than Hellenistic or modern secular astrology traditions.
Are these books appropriate for beginners?
Yes — several titles on this list, particularly the Mari Silva books, are written specifically for readers new to Kabbalah and Jewish mysticism, while others like Dobin's "Kabbalistic Astrology" are better suited to readers with some prior background.
Do these books require a kosher certification?
No. Kosher certification applies to food products, not books. The word "kosher" in this context describes the Torah-rooted framework of the content, not a hechsher.
Who is Yitzchok A. Pinkesz?
Yitzchok A. Pinkesz is a Torah-observant astrologer and author of "Kosher Astrology: A Jewish Guide to Celestial Wisdom," a 500-page, full-color guide published by Mosaica Press.
